The performance is inspired by the novel Flights (Bieguni) by Olga Tokarczuk, which won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2018. It navigates a complex and interconnected web of stories and meditations on travel, human anatomy, and the yearning for exploration. Its fragmented structure mirrors the transient and episodic nature of human existence. Through a series of interwoven vignettes, the novel delves into the essence of movement, the fleeting encounters that shape our lives, and the profound connections between people and places. The narrative explores the theme of travel as a metaphor for the human condition, probing the desires, anxieties, and existential inquiries that accompany the act of journeying. Flights also encompasses philosophical reflections on the human body, framing it as a vessel for experience, a locus of vulnerability, and a canvas for self-discovery.
The dancer's body, symbolizing the essence of human existence, serves as a meaningful medium for articulating the discussed topics, as we traverse time and space with it, both in everyday reality and onstage. Conceptually, the performance will draw inspiration from the novel's structure, with its fragmentary, multifaceted nature and the stories of the creators, and will be constantly rooted in a specific historical moment, marked by mass migrations and journeys, reflecting the unrest in the modern world and humanity.
